Custom Materials for Stone Range Hoods

The old world kitchen is one of the most preferred unique designs for kitchens in high end custom build homes in Florida, Texas or any big American city. This is because they are inviting, warm and steeped in tradition. With them comes the possibility of choosing an exquisite architectural design that you want for your kitchen. The material most commonly used to make stone hoods is cast concrete. Others consider a stone range hoods made from individual cast concrete stone. However, to obtain that mediaeval look in the kitchen, natural stones like limestone hood are the most preferred.

  • Cast concrete

Cast concrete is only obtainable from lightweight concrete so as to look as close to the luxury kitchen hood one may desire as possible. Molds are obtained from stone hoods and the cast materials will still have the characteristics of natural stone used whether we want a light cast stone hoods or a travertine hood. To make them look the same as the real stones, colorants are added to the molds and the concrete mix.

  • Natural stones

These are the most expensive custom design stone range hood as they are time consuming and can be made as complex as possible. Experienced stone masons are needed to skillfully fit the stones and in addition to mortar them. The process takes time as many weeks are required to cut, chip, nip and fit the pieces. Stone masons are also rare making their services damn expensive.

  • Cultured stone

For those who cannot afford natural stones but still want a kitchen hood similar to the French limestone hood or the French country hood, then the cultured stone is a good option. It is a combination of poured concrete and stone molds which are obtained from real stones. These are very easy to install and one can just purchase, read instructions and install on his own. It is always advisable that you look at a sample stone hood even visit a home where it is installed before making a purchase.
